LAKEVIEW COMMUNITY CENTRE
The Lakeview Community Centre is a non-profit society that invites residents of the North Shuswap to join as members with the goal of connecting our community through events, activities, and volunteerism. Located in Anglemont, Lakeview is a gathering place, a social hub, an emergency safe haven, and a place where memories are made. As of 2025, our membership has grown to welcome over 310 individuals, many of whom are dedicated volunteers. We couldn't do it without all their passion and hard work!
The Lakeview Centre, where it stands now, held its grand opening on June 6, 1981. Originally established as the Senior Citizens Association, Branch 112 Anglemont BC in the 1970s, an increase in population and interest in the Centre's activities encouraged a demographic shift, allowing all ages to join as members in 2010. Although we have long evolved from being a senior's-only Centre, we thank and honour those who made it possible to gather here today. We've come a long way! We invite you to learn more about the history of our beloved Lakeview Community Centre through some feature articles below and by speaking directly with some of our long-time members.
The Lakeview Community Centre is well known in the Shuswap area for hosting the North Shuswap Players and their sold-out Dinner Theatre productions, putting on great concerts and dances as fundraisers for the Centre, and other annual events such as our Remembrance Day Ceremony, Canada Day Celebration, Christmas Craft Market, and our Monthly Rise & Shine Breakfasts.
Lakeview has many exclusive clubs and activities, including the Carpet Bowling League, Indoor Pickleball Club, Table Tennis Club, Crafts Group, and the North Shuswap Artists. We host members-only events, community workshops, craft nights, and fitness and wellness activities.

HISTORY OF ANGLEMONT
Anglemont, BC, located on Shuswap Lake's north shore, started with early homesteading and logging, got its name from nearby Angle Mountain (named for the Seymour Arm's angle), with its post office opening in 1914. It evolved from early farming struggles into a successful recreational hub, developing significantly with subdivisions in the 1970s, featuring a marina, golf course, and a growing mix of year-round residents and vacationers, maintaining its rural Shuswap character.
Early Days & Naming
Development & Modern Community
Early Days & Naming
- Origin of Name: The area was named for Angle Mountain, identified by G.M. Dawson in 1877 for the distinct angle of the Seymour Arm of Shuswap Lake.
- Post Office: The Anglemont Post Office opened on August 1, 1914, with W.A. Hudson as the first postmaster, solidifying the name.
- Settlement: Early settlers faced challenges, including farming difficulties, but built strong community bonds through mutual help and social events like dances, as detailed in narratives about early homesteads.
Development & Modern Community
- Subdivision Boom: A major turning point was the development of Anglemont Estates, with efforts starting in the late 1960s, transforming the remote area into a four-season recreational destination by the 1970s.
- Growth: Despite initial skepticism about developing the remote area, it became successful, selling many lots and adding amenities like a lodge, marina, and golf course, notes Shuswap Passion.
- Community Character: Today, Anglemont retains its rural feel, a blend of small lots and larger acreages, with a vibrant mix of permanent residents and visitors enjoying lake activities, typical of the resilient Shuswap communities, say Shuswap Passion and Shuswap Passion.
