ABOUT LAKEVIEW COMMUNITY CENTRE
Nestled in the heart of Anglemont, the Lakeview Community Centre has long been a cornerstone of connection in the North Shuswap. More than just a building, Lakeview is a gathering place where neighbours become friends, ideas turn into events, and memories are made. Whether it’s a lively community celebration, a quiet club meeting, or a moment of support during challenging times, Lakeview continues to serve as a social hub, a place of belonging, and an important resource for the community.
Our History:
The Lakeview Community Centre, as it stands today, officially opened its doors on June 6, 1981. Its roots, however, go back to the 1970s, when it was founded as the Senior Citizens Association, Branch 112 Anglemont BC. At the time, the Centre provided a dedicated space for seniors to gather, socialize, and stay active.
As the North Shuswap region grew, so too did the Centre’s role in the community. Increasing interest in programs and events highlighted the need for a more inclusive space. In 2010, Lakeview embraced an important transformation by opening its membership to all ages—marking a new chapter as a truly intergenerational community hub.
While we have evolved far beyond our beginnings, we remain deeply grateful to the volunteers and visionaries who laid the foundation for what Lakeview is today. Their dedication and community spirit continue to inspire everything we do.
A Vibrant Community Hub:
Lakeview is proud to host a wide range of events and activities that bring people together throughout the year. We are well known across the Shuswap for welcoming the North Shuswap Players and their highly anticipated, often sold-out Dinner Theatre productions. These performances, along with concerts, dances, and fundraising events, help support the Centre while enriching the cultural life of our community.
Our annual traditions have become highlights of the local calendar. From the meaningful Remembrance Day Ceremony to the festive Canada Day Celebration and Christmas Craft Market, as well as our popular monthly Rise & Shine Breakfasts, there is always something happening at Lakeview.

HISTORY OF ANGLEMONT
Anglemont, BC, located on Shuswap Lake's north shore, started with early homesteading and logging, got its name from nearby Angle Mountain (named for the Seymour Arm's angle), with its post office opening in 1914. It evolved from early farming struggles into a successful recreational hub, developing significantly with subdivisions in the 1970s, featuring a marina, golf course, and a growing mix of year-round residents and vacationers, maintaining its rural Shuswap character.
Early Days & Naming
Development & Modern Community
Early Days & Naming
- Origin of Name: The area was named for Angle Mountain, identified by G.M. Dawson in 1877 for the distinct angle of the Seymour Arm of Shuswap Lake.
- Post Office: The Anglemont Post Office opened on August 1, 1914, with W.A. Hudson as the first postmaster, solidifying the name.
- Settlement: Early settlers faced challenges, including farming difficulties, but built strong community bonds through mutual help and social events like dances, as detailed in narratives about early homesteads.
Development & Modern Community
- Subdivision Boom: A major turning point was the development of Anglemont Estates, with efforts starting in the late 1960s, transforming the remote area into a four-season recreational destination by the 1970s.
- Growth: Despite initial skepticism about developing the remote area, it became successful, selling many lots and adding amenities like a lodge, marina, and golf course, notes Shuswap Passion.
- Community Character: Today, Anglemont retains its rural feel, a blend of small lots and larger acreages, with a vibrant mix of permanent residents and visitors enjoying lake activities, typical of the resilient Shuswap communities, say Shuswap Passion and Shuswap Passion.
